Mathew A. Leonard, Esq. ATTORNEY AT LAW
Mathew represents employers in a broad range of labor and employment matters, with a particular emphasis on employment litigation and labor relations within the entertainment industry. He has successfully defended clients facing claims of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, wage and hour violations, and breach of contract. In addition to his litigation experience, Mathew has experience in traditional labor law, including the negotiation of collective bargaining agreements, resolution of strikes, and counseling employers on union contract compliance and grievance resolution.
Mathew partners closely with clients to deliver practical, strategic guidance designed to reduce legal risk and promote compliance with evolving federal, state, and local laws. He provides day-to-day advice and preventive counseling on employment issues such as employee discipline, workplace investigations, leaves of absence, and wage and hour practices. He also assists employers in developing and maintaining compliant workplace policies and documentation.
Prior to joining Landegger & Verano, Mathew represented the major Hollywood studios during negotiations of the industry-wide collective bargaining agreements and the resolution of the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, advising on bargaining strategy and contract implementation. Earlier in his career, Mathew worked as a litigation associate at prominent national law firms, where he managed complex civil litigation, conducted workplace investigations, and represented clients before state and federal courts, administrative agencies, and in arbitration proceedings.
Mathew earned his Juris Doctor from the UCLA School of Law in 2019, where he was awarded the Barry Capello Certificate in Trial Advocacy. He received his B.A. from Vassar College in History in 2011, where he focused on French history and the Algerian Revolution.
